Utilizing an automated tool analysis to evaluate EFL students’ writing performances

Abstract Recently, the integration of linguistics and technology has been promoted widely used in field English writing research for several purposes. One those purposes is to evaluate as a Foreign Language (EFL) ability by using electronic assessment tools. In current study, an automated evaluation tool (Coh-Metrix) was indicate English-major students’ performances based on discourse components texts. The texts generated each task two different topics were collected. corpus analyses gathered from Coh-Metrix identified linguistic features that interpreted determine 40 EFL undergraduate abilities. students wrote revised their essays hand-written class resubmitted digital forms with corrections made. results showed these demonstrated flexibility across assignments they produced. also indicated length uses word concreteness, referential deep cohesion had impacts tasks. Besides, findings suggest practical value text analysis support teachers’ instructional decisions could help identify improvement skill.
